OKLAHOMA SURVIVAL SWIM
Saving lives one child at a time by teaching children the survival skills needed to enjoy the water safely. I take great pride in working with every child, forming a special relationship with them and their parents. Watching your child discover the joy of swimming is an amazingly rewarding experience.
The ability of a baby to float and breathe, regardless of the water's depth, for an indefinite period of time. How would your child react alone in the water? The most essential survival swim skills we will teach your child is to roll from a face down position in the water to a face up independent back float. Infants and toddlers can not raise their heads to take a breath. If your child falls face down in the water, knowing how to roll onto a face up back float will save their li your child is walking, then they can also learn to swim to pools edge or steps, rolling over for air as needed.
My name is Lea Diaz. I have been blessed to have raised 4 daughters in the Edmond area and have 4 grandchildren now. My first exposure to Infant Aquatics was with my first granddaughter, who started when she was just 6 months old. Seeing how well my grandchildren progressed has been amazing. Until then, I did not know infants could learn self-rescue.
This program is near and dear to my heart and has sparked a passion for Infant Aquatics. I have had two friends who have lost a young family member to drowning. Witnessing the damage it caused their whole family was extremely painful, especially knowing it could have been prevented with a short swim course.
Knowing how to swim and being water safe are not the same thing. This method teaches the child to swim for fun, float for safety and how to decide when each skill is appropriate.
I have spent over 200 hours of intensive, hands-on training with Judy and Kyla Heumann as well as the academic study of: child development, behavioral psychology, physiology, anatomy and water safety to achieve my certification. I would be honored to have the opportunity to teach your child these lifesaving skills.
Reasons to Get Started:
1.Your child can learn in weeks not years
2. You and your extended family live or vacation around pools or bodies of water
3. You enjoy swimming and want your child to enjoy it as well.
4. You would rather take control of your child's safety than take a chance.
What can children learn:
The roll over breathing technique is one that most schools and or learn to swim teachers don't even attempt because it takes time, skill and patience. But once children learn to roll over and float, relax and breathe whenever air is needed, they can and do, truly swim, stay afloat, conquer fear and experience the joy of swimming.
This allows you as the parent and the child, to take control, not chances. Empower your child with the skills needed to safely enjoy the water. Discover the Infant Aquatics difference today. Swim in weeks, not years!
Why Infant Aquatics: Drowning is the leading cause of death in children birth to age 4! Children are naturally drawn to pools, hot tubs, lakes, ponds, streams and beaches. Despite parents best efforts at supervision, it only takes one head turn before an accident has occurred.
Infant 6-12 months:
1.Hold their breath in the water
2. Roll from a face down position to a face up back float
3. Float, relax, and breathe until rescued by an adult
4. Perform these skills fully clothed
Particularly active infants may also learn to propel a short distance. Learning these skills takes approximately 12 lessons.
What can children who are walking (1 to 6 years):
1. How to hold their breath in the water
2. Swim with their face in the water to the steps or deck
3.Roll over onto their back when they need to breathe
4. Flip back onto their tummy to continue swimming until reaching their destination or roll to their back should they need to breathe again
5. Perform these skills fully clothed.
The time frame for mastering these skills is typically 24 lessons
How are lessons conducted:
Initial swimming lessons with Infant Aquatics are one on one, approximately ten minutes in length and done 4 days per week for 4-6 weeks. Each swim lesson builds on the last, so there is measurable progress each week.
How can you teach a baby who cannot talk?
Swimming and floating are motor skills that can be taught to a baby through repetitive exercises, along with gentle verbal encouragement. We show the babies what to do, and over a short period of time , they learn the skills necessary to survive. Be assured, we do not just throw children into the water! We use a variety of methods, combining the best ideas from swim schools and infant/toddler programs throughout the world.
What's next?
Once your infant, toddler or child has completed my aquatic survival swimming program, I encourage you to continue with age appropriate maintenance lessons. Each is designed to enhance previously learned skills. This will bring your child to the next level and achieve our goal of safe, happy, technically sound swimmers!
Beyond survival:
Children 7-23 months need opportunities to practice their skills for maximum retention and build confidence, usually suggested swimming at least once per month but assessments would be done at the end of survival lessons. These will reinforce safety skills first, followed by water enjoyment and ultimately, proficient swimming.
Children 2-4 years also need opportunities to practice their skills to maintain confidence and improve retention. Aquatic professionals agree upon the importance of play in the learn to swim process and the negative effects of time spent out of the water. These will change your child from a survival swimmer into a recreational swimmer and perhaps even a swim team participant. Frequency is decided based upon the specific child's level and goals.

Lea is so patient and and makes my daughter feel so comfortable. I am so glad we found her. Its so scary having a pool with a toddler. I defiantly recommend this for everyone to teach to their children.
"Lea make every swim lesson an absolute joy for my grand kids!"
"My son was scared of the water, but after working with Lea for just a couple of weeks, swim time is now his favorite part of the week!"
